Internet Explorer problem

I recently started having a problem with my internet explorer. I have both IE and Firefox. Firefox works perfectly, but when I try to go to websites on IE, it opens up Firefox. Now, I do like Firefox better, but i would like to know why this is happening.
To clarify a bit more, i'll explain step by step the problem.
1) I open IE
2) I enter web address in the bar
3) I press enter
4) Firefox then opens, with the website I entered
5) IE remains open, and at my homepage
Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!
