Windows Virtual Machine Shared Folder Can't be Found On a MAC

I've recently migrated shared folders from an old Windows platform to a virtual machine. The share name is the same. When I try to remap the drive on a MAC to the new VM it's not finding the server or share. The mapping works to the old physical windows box. Is there an issue with mapping from a MAC to a virtual machine?

Thanks for the help.

It should work like a physical machine, does it work when you do it from a Windows machine? Can you resolve the name of the virtual server (DNS)? Did you try disabling the firewall on the virtual machine even just for testing?

Does the virtual machine have a different name and/or IP-address than the physical server? How are you doing the share exactly?

The new share works fine from all other Windows desktops, name resolves from DNS, ping to name returns IP. The new VM does have a different IP address and name. Here is how I'm attempting to map on MAC;

Finder / GO / Connect to Server / smb://xx.xx.xx.xx/sharename

Did you try with cifs://xx.xx.xx.xx/sharename?

Have not tried this, will let you know if it works as soon as I can get on the users MAC, probably this afternoon.

Thanks Spravtek.

No problem, hope it works
