How to check SAN disk is shared or dedicated disk

Hi,
I would like to know,
From server side Is there way to identify SAN disk is shared between different nodes or its dedicated SAN disk. (Without reaching Storage team).

You can't as it is presented as the LUN is presented as a drive. The server does not know about the LUN mapping, all it knows is that it has been presented with a disk. You have to look at the storage. If there are multiple servers then you might want to check and see if any of them has the same disk mounted or not.

Are you using EMC symmetrix storage? if yes, there is a utility to check the device ID from the host. Let me know if you need more info.

What is that utility name ? Whether Device ID will help us to identify the shared disk or non shared.

Some SAN providers do not include a utility that is installed as part of drivers (if required) on servers and it would be hard to find out. What you need to know is the make and model of the SAN, have access to the SAN and then use the required utility/software from SAN manufacturer to find out if the LUN is being accessed by multiple or single server.

If you are using symmetrix or HP XP storage you dont need to access the SAN to know the device ID. As you know the storage admins never give credentials to access the systems outside their group :)

From the host, just run the command and you'll get the device ID and check the cluster member host for the same device ID. If it is there the disk is shared.
