Windows File and Folders

On Windows 2008 R2 I have a simple folder with 2 Excel files and no subfolder
When I go to the properties of this folder it says :COntent: 3 files , 0 folders

Where is the third file reported in "properties" ? Option for displaying hidden files is activated and I do not see any hidden file

I have copied the folder on a Windows 8 PRO PC and the problem is the same. Folder "properties" reports 3 files and it shows only 2 files

Thanks

Enable viewing of System files too.

or from a command prompt in that location

dir /a

It's probably something like desktop.ini

You are right!

I found a file called thumbs.db 27136Kb

Can I ignore all these thumbs.db files?

Actually I am migrating from server A to server B. And I have a huge directory (80Go) that I am copying from source server A to target server B (using a utility call FREEFILESYNC) and all these thumb.db files and NOT copied. So target directory properties (number of files and size of directory) is NOT similar to source directory. Because all thumbs.db files are not copied. Could be this and issue in my migration ?

Thank you very much

You can ignore them - they're just thumbnail database files for any images in the folder.

You could always experiment with disabling their creation via Group Policy:http://ask-leo.com/how_do_i_turn_off_thumbsdb_in_windows_7.html

Ok thats fine.
Last question : it there a way to display folder properties WITHOUT accounting for all these system files?

Tks again

Not that I'm aware of.
A file count is a file count with no reference to what the files are.
