What would I need to setup a 1000BASE-T network in an office of 20 computers.

I am meeting with an installer to replace the current cat 3 cable (installed in 1991) with cat 6 cable throughout my office.

What else would I need to purchase so that we can be on a faster network?

Note: All computers, including the server, have 1000BaseT network cards [Except 2 old XP computers, they have 100BaseT network cards]

A gigabit capable switch. MAYBE a patch panel if you use it. MAYBE your wall plates if they aren't Cat5e or better (ideally, your patch cable, wall plates, and cabling will all match "category" level.

You need to have swicthes that also support the Gig Ethernet as well. Make sure that all ports are Gig Ethernet. Some switches will say GigEthernet but they may only have a couple of ports that are actual GigEthernet.

Will.

The cabling contractor should install cabling, patch panel and wall outlets all to Cat6 specification and that should be included in the price. All you'd need is a 24-port gigabit-capable switch.

Thank you!
