Windows 7 - Windows & Fax -The incoming call cannot be answered as a fax call (Windows 7 with USR5637 modem

Hello,

I have a Windows 7 Professional running Windows Scan & Fax. Machine has a US Robotics modem (USR5637) connected. Installed drivers that came with the modem.

When trying to receive faxes, the S&F lists that it has answered the call as a fax. However, after some time the call fails and I just receive a message "The incoming call cannot be answered as a fax call.

Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

Regards,
Real-Timer

Are you connected to a POTS (Plain Old Telephone System) line or something else?
Many VOIP and PBX systems are incompatible with faxing. My first test is to plug in a regular phone and test calling with it. My second would be to try to send a fax.

Do you have another fax modem? I had issues with some US Robotics. Can you send faxes? What does the fax modem in device manager (Control Panel) indicate? Properly installed? Also check out Phone and Modem in control panel.

We used to have an SBS 2003 with a USR serial modem. This worked fine. We've had to decomission that server, and replaced with a Windows 7 machine with the USB modem to handle fax funcions. Prior setup worked fine so I'm quite sure the line is okay.

So what happens when you send a fax?

Windows 2003 and Win7 are VERY DIFFERENT Windows. USR does work but not all of them. Can you tell us what you get from the previous comments I/we made (Can you send faxes? Do you have another fax modem--does it say it is Win7 compatible?)
