FIPS 140 Mode on WIndows 7

I would like to enable FIPS 140 mode on a few Windows 7 system systems in my domain for some initial testing. I know that I can apply FIPS mode via GPO, but I simply want to enable it my desktop and maybe a few co-workers. I'd like to just do something manually by a registry setting or maybe by gpedit on the machine to see how it works and what breaks. Can someone suggest a good way to do this?
