Re-Installing Windows 7 on a HP Vista Computer

I have a HP Computer that came factory installed with Windows Vista. I upgraded it to Windows 7 some time ago. I would like to reformat the computer (running slow and other issues) My trouble is my recovery partition is setup to format and re-install Windows Vista. Since I don't have a upgrade Windows DVD for 7 I'm not sure how to re-install Windows 7. I'm also not sure I could find the activation code for that upgrade. Any ideas?

You need a Windows 7 DVD (or downloaded ISO file) to upgrade to Windows 7. Restoring the Recovery Partition will just leave you with Vista.

You must have used a download or DVD the first time. How did you upgrade the first time.

Can you find the download? And then apply the download upgrade again. Otherwise you need to get a new a Windows 7 DVD.

Hi,

Like @JohnHurst said you need a new /fresh copy. it is possible to get a copy via DVD, USB, and Virtually. Microsoft can make it a little difficult to get these copies as they do not want people loaning them to their friends. That being said if you cannot find one i would ask a buddy or look in 'bad' places.

before you start the new install i would ensure you get a program such as recoverkeys and get all of your passwords, keycodes for your existing software.

Additionally, you may have just puchased an upgrade key from MS which case you would need to install vista and then 7
