Remote Desktop Server Server (TS / RDS) 2008 R2 or 2012

Hi,

Several years ago we setup a Windows 2003 TS Server with 60 Cals that wasn't really utilized.

We now need to setup as similar system with approx. 200 users.

Is there anything we need apart from the Servers, Cals i.e for example the TS Gateway

Thank you in advance

I'd go with 2012R2.. with 200 users you are going to need a pretty massive server or many connection servers using round-robin or some other method of load balancing.. you are also goiing to need to have a pretty good storage subsystem as well. 2012R2 can use storage tiering to move most used data to SSD's in your storage array this can be either dynamic or pinned tiering or a combination of the both.

Hardware is ESX C7000 Blades and NetApps. I just wanted to check that apart from Windows Servers and Cals there is nothing else I needed.

Your storage array needs to provide over 2,000 iOPS and available network bandwidth is on the order of 10Gbps. Are we dealing with VDI or just remote desktop?

The connectivity is 2 x 3850's using 4 x 10Gbps

The plan is to running RDS

I don't believe you will be able to accommodate 200 users on one server. You will require TS Session Broker Load Balancer. This will allow you to distribute load across farm of servers. Refer to following links for more info:
