Windows 8.1 Not Resuming from Sleep Mode

My client purchased a Lenovo T540p with Windows 7 and proceeded to migrate all his user files and a bunch of viruses to the new computer. As the rescuer, I explained that there were plenty of good reasons to put Windows 8.1 on a new computer. I installed a full license version of Windows 8.1 Pro to get a truly fresh start, then installed the Lenovo Solutions program and used it to identify, download and install all the drivers. The computer is working perfectly, except when it is in sleep mode, it will not resume. In the power settings, I set sleep to Never, so sleep is manually invoked. I am pretty sure that resuming from sleep was an issue with the original Windows 7 configuration, so suspect that a BIOS setting needs to be tweaked. Before venturing into the BIOS, I would like guidance about what to look for or if there are registry settings that i should explore.

Default BIOS settings on ThinkPads allow Suspend without issue. You never need to adjust the registry and should not adjust the registry on a ThinkPad.

Check the Windows 8.1 Power Settings. Power Plan, Change plan settings, Advanced options opens up the advanced Window. Go through the Power Options and Lid options to make sure they are properly set.

Make sure it is not Hibernating and then go into BIOS and set Power section to restart.

Go to the Lenovo Support Site and get the Power Management Driver (not Application software) for the machine and update that. Current driver is 1.67.9.x for my machine. Do not install any power management application software. Windows 8.1 does all of that.

Shut down and start up after all that and please let us know if it works.

My ThinkPad X230 with Windows 8 then Windows 8.1 suspends and resumes just fine and has done for 2 years.

Check again with Software Update (different than Solution Center) and make sure all Critical and Recommended drivers are done. For this issue: BIOS, Chipset and Power Management Driver.

Sometimes firmware upgrades can fix issues with buggy BIOS's and ACPI, but that is seldom the case. So you could try upgrading the BIOS, but chances are low that after that it will work properly.

Can you launch Leveno system updates and confirm/install any updates and try again. If it's not installed the download link is a very top of page.

Confirmed that all system updates are installed. Also reviewed power settings and reset them to balanced mode default. Still cannot resume from sleep mode. When pressing power button, I do not see the BIOS screen, but do see that power is on. Nothing shows on the monitor. Opened a case with Lenovo today. They asked for a complete set of hardware scans - in progress now.
